With two blockbusters opening in the same weekend, studios anxiously waited to find out which one would come out on top. With an appeal to adults and kids alike, Disney's Lilo & Stitch, a live-action reimagining of Disney's 2002 popular animated classic, earned an astounding $145.5 million.

The horror film Final Destination: Bloodlines, last weekend's top movie, dropped to third place, taking in an extra $19.7 million for a two-week total of $89.8 million.
Thunderbolts* dropped to fourth, earning an additional $9.2 million for a four-week total of $171.4 million. Click here to read our review.
Rounding out the top five was Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, which took in an extra $8.8 million for a six-week total of $256.5 million.
